little lamp

Light Project 2017

The „Little Lamp“ is an homage to the push puppet from Walther Kourt Walss, 1926. The crafted wooden toy is a redesign of this familiar product. What makes it so special is the surprising effect when you push the button - it bends and it lights up. This can sometimes be very helpful if you only need a short moment of light. Especially for children, it is a nice night companion!

story

Every time when Fite goes to bed, his bedside lamp stays on because he doesn't like it to be by himself. The light stays on all night. When his uncle Ole is coming for a visit, fite gets very excited. Ole is Fites favorite uncle because he tells the best stories, builds and does the nicest things with him. As he puts Fite to bed in the evening he has a present for him. It’s a little lamp. But not an usual lamp. This one is quite smaller and it also works different than the ones Fite knows.

You have to keep pressing the button, to light it up. It also seems that the little light is alive. It’s bending forward and backwards, nodding at Fite and lowers the lampshade, as if it’s tired. “See, eventually the light of the little lamp is exhausted. Just put it on the nightstand and in case you’ll wake up, it will be there and gives you light. Therefore the big lamp doesn't need any electricity anymore,“ says uncle Ole.

Process

Most of the parts of the first prototype are 3D printed. It soon became clear that the feeling of the material and the value of the object is enhanced if it is made of wood. Only the small lampshade was printed from a transparent filament.
